The app is central to the Wonder Words program, setting strong foundations in the 44 phonemes.
When students engage with the app, they are introduced to the alphabet, learn and consolidate common sounds, progressing through to building CVC words and sentences. From there, students embark on the acquisition of high frequency words in a fun and engaging world of interactive play.
Carefully selected activities in synthetic phonics, sequenced to build and consolidate knowledge, are embedded in the Story Hollow app to ensure students develop the required knowledge to become strong readers.
(The introduction of additional written activities and scripts in synthetic phonics will occur for 2023.)

Decodable readers have been developed in alignment with the word lists introduced each week, revising and building upon the knowledge gained in previous weeks.
The huge range of activities are focused around set word lists each week, where students progressively build upon previous weeks’ learning and are continually revisiting previously acquired sounds and words.
Research-based activities are designed to cater to the needs of all students, having taken into consideration the individual needs of students with learning difficulties, including students on the autism spectrum, students with dyslexia and ADHD.
Games have been included for each week in the program, not only strengthening word knowledge, but allowing teachers to easily assess knowledge as they hear students read words aloud, students further develop social skills and personal skills in game play and turn taking.
The games provided (along with access to the ‘Story Hollow’ app) make classroom rotation activities simple to set up. Everything is included.
Activities have been designed to keep students engaged and quickly build their confidence in reading.
Animations are included to provide teachers with quick transition activities or activities to settle students upon returning to the classroom from outside play.
